Importance of Home Inspections

(Part 2)

Don’t get caught, trapped or end up in horror stories that are being shared from recent home buyers.  With the housing market as hot as it was, many people felt that they had no choice but to pass on securing a home inspection and the outcome, unfortunately, left some people regretting their decision.

In a report done by CTV, a woman shares her nightmare and regrets of not getting a home inspection

Now that the housing market is slowly turning into a buyers’market again, take the opportunity to educate yourself before jumping into potentially the biggest investment of your life.   Hiring a home inspector will prevent you from ending up with your dream house being a nightmare.

During a home inspection, not only will they check for obvious irregularities such as the following: Foundation and Structural issues, Mould, Electrical Problems, Plumbing and Water Damage, Rodent Infestations, but also a long list of not so obvious issues.

So, you may ask yourself, why can’t I do my own inspection?  Sure there are straightforward items to look for, but let’s face it….you’re not a professional and frankly, who has the time these days to spend doing a job that you aren’t qualified to do.  Hiring a professional not only guarantees you a job done right it also ensures you the peace of mind during a time that can be stressful enough.

The list of pros and cons of hiring a professional home inspector can certainly be debated but the bottom line for most of us comes down to cost.  Does the cost of not getting a home inspection really save you money in the long run?  It can actually cost you a lot more, just as it did the home buyer from the video earlier in this blog.  Having a certified professional provide you with a clear picture of what problems (existing or potential) your new home may hide, certainly can ease your mind and let you focus on other aspects of home ownership.

Since the market has changed and buyers have more of the upper hand, now is the time to take advantage of that. A good way to start is by booking a home inspection.   Take the time you need so ensure you make your home buying experience a great one.
